Just How Much Is Too Much?

Jacob's turning 5 in a couple of weeks, and something's been on my mind about social media. Just how much is too much?  At 18 years old, will his friends find baby pictures and tease him about them?  Or will he enjoy reading about his childhood when he's 28 and having a child of his own?

I started this blog because I wanted to document my thoughts as I raised a child... and for the most part, I'm glad I did.  While I remember many of the major milestones with Jacob, it's difficult to remember everything... so I am thankful I have the blog.  It's hard now to select the topics because he has his own thoughts and opinions. Maybe I should have just kept a written diary. Lol.

Last month, I was showing him a picture I took of him, and he asked me not to post it on Instagram. It shocked me.  This was when I realized I should ask him for permission before posting pictures.  I was accustomed to being a parent of a toddler - but now, I'm parent of a kid. A kid that has his own opinions and feelings.

When I was a high school teacher, my students would post pictures that they regretted later or even caused "drama".  They would post pictures of fights, alcoholic drinks, and parties.  I would try to preach to them tell them that once a picture is on the internet, it's there forever. You can't take it away. Perhaps I should take my own advice?

This is why my posts have been limited. I'm at a crossroads in my blogging, and I don't know where to go from here. I'd like to continue blogging because I enjoy the friends I've made and I enjoy sharing what I've learned. I also have a hidden addiction of reading other mommy blogs to see that I'm not alone in what I'm going through.  However, I don't want to embarrass Jacob or later regret writing things.

Are any of you out there mommy bloggers of older children? What do your older kids think about blogging?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

In the mean time, here's a picture that Jacob approved. Happy Belated Valentine's Day!

Guest Post on Vacatia

I'm excited to announce that I was a guest blogger for Vacatia.  The purpose of the post was to write about a day at the beach with Jacob, so I revealed a secret spot that we enjoy going to.  Not a lot of tourists know about the beach because it's hard to see from the road. It's the perfect spot for babies and small children who aren't strong swimmers, since the reef protects the shore from being hit with large waves.
